NCTA Operations & Maintenance Conference

The NCTA O&M began as a group of private car users meeting in a hotel to discuss railcar issues they were experiencing. Through the years, it evolved into the NCTA O&M Committee of today. Its primary purpose remains to help members solve their railcar maintenance problems and provide necessary technical education.

The O&M consists of people that are interested in railcar operations and maintenance. It comprises suppliers, vendors, manufacturers, leasing companies, utility representatives, railcar maintenance contractors, and others. Some individuals primarily manage the maintenance of coal cars, while others address the maintenance of limestone, gypsum, ash, grain, soy, or other bulk commodities shipped via unit train.

The NCTA O&M Conference is an excellent opportunity to meet railcar owners and listen to their concerns as well as their successes. The members determine the speakers, technical papers presented, and discussion topics. Kevin Koepke, VP of Sales at Cathcart Rail, and Keith McCabe, Director of Service Engineering at Amsted Rail, are creating a robust agenda. The traditional NCTA Railcar Owner’s discussion will take place first thing on Monday morning, and the All Member Roundtable will commence late Monday morning.

Golf: The NCTA Scottsdale Scholarship Scramble

McCormick Ranch Golf Club features two Desmond Muirhead-designed, 18-hole traditional golf courses, the Palm and the Pine, which were built in 1971. These courses, among the most popular resort layouts in the Valley of the Sun, are more than 7,000 yards long.
The Palm has ten water holes and, as its name suggests, numerous large palm trees throughout the course. The Pine is characterized by narrow fairways, which issue a sportful challenge, and features many mature pine trees. The men’s and women’s tees provide a gratifying golfing experience for average golfers. In contrast, the championship tees offer low handicappers an extremely competitive test. The ninth hole on the Palm, the course’s signature hole because of its unique island fairway, was included among “America’s top 18 water holes”, as selected by Golf Illustrated.
