Railcar Teardown: NCTA is partnering with Lower Colorado River Authority on a “teardown” event on February 11, 2020, in Smithville, Texas. This event is a hands-on opportunity for a railcar 101.  You will view different types of brake components, wheels, trucks, dampening systems, couplers, draft gear, etc.; how they fit on the car, how they are removed, what they do, and failure points.  Vendors will elaborate on their products, explain how their gauges are used, and describe what is considered acceptable wear.

Smithville, Texas is located south-east of Austin.  The closest airport is Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) approximately 28 miles from Bastrop and 38 miles from Smithville.
